Ziona Chana, head of a local Christian sect that allows polygamy, died Sunday, Mizoram Prime Minister Zoramthanga said in a Twitter post.
According to local media, the family is the largest in the world with 167 members, but that depends on whether you count the grandchildren Mr. Ziona has 33 of them.
Winston Blackmore, head of a polygamous Mormon denomination in Canada, has as many as 150 children from 27 wives – a total of 178.

The news was confirmed by Mizoram’s chief minister, Zoramthanga, who offered his condolences “with a heavy heart” on Twitter.
Chana was reported to be suffering from diabetes and hypertension.
Doctors told the PTI news agency that Chana’s condition worsened at her home in her village, Baktawng Tlangnuam. She was admitted to the hospital on Sunday evening and was pronounced dead on arrival, she said.
