Wynne Lee and Marcus Eriz are two suspects charged with the murder of 6-year-old Aiden Anthony Leos in a fatal car accident in California.

Aiden’s death angered and mobilized the community. The boy was shot dead on Highway 55 in Orange, California. Lee and Eriz were arrested on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in Costa Mesa, California, and are “expected to be charged with murder,” according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the boy was randomly hit in a car accident caused by a perceived lane change. The California Highway Patrol called male suspect Eriz Marcus Anthony in a press release, but prison records and social media accounts name him as Marcus Anthony Eriz.

The crime was horrific and random. According to ABC News, Aiden was shot dead on May 21, 2021, while his mother, Joanna Cloonan, was “taking him to school.”
The crime occurred at Yorba Linda. Cloonan told ABC News that a white sedan cut him “suddenly” in the carpool lane at 55 Freeway. “The arrests came after the SR-55 was fired on on May 21, 2021,” the CHP’s press release said. “Joanna Cloonan was driving a silver Chevrolet Sonic and approaching the SR-22, while her son Aiden Anthony Leos was sitting in the rear passenger compartment. Ms. Cloonan and the passengers of a white Volkswagen station wagon were involved in a traffic accident due to a perceived unsafe lane change. His latest Instagram post came in April. Facebook profile picture is all black.
On Facebook, Eriz described herself as “a young welder trying to figure out how to live from a small town to the big city.”
2. Eriz and Lee Boyfriend and Girlfriend; Wynne Featured in Stories Talking About Depression
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Eriz and Lee are dating. They are boyfriend and girlfriend. Still, his social media accounts do not mention him.
Eriz is 24 and Lee is 23.
According to CBS Los Angeles, authorities tracked the couple through a restaurant before arresting them. Authorities believe they know the location of the couple’s gun and car, according to CBS LA.
A 2015 article on KHN featured Lee and talked about his struggle with depression. This story says that she grew up in the suburbs of the San Gabriel Valley, the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants. The article talks about how he ended up missing out on too much school at Diamond Bar High.
She was one of three children born to a close-knit family; her father worked in manufacturing and her mother was a stay-at-home mom. The article describes how she attempted suicide by swallowing pills. The article quotes Lee’s diary: “Thoughts of suicide seep in in droplets. … Therapy and counseling don’t … help me much either. All we do in these sessions is chatting. I don’t feel better. I still can’t deal with it. I’m not getting better.”
According to KHN, Lee’s mother worked hard to get help and was in therapy, but she accepted that depression and loneliness were part of her life and said, “I accepted that as part of who I am.” Social media accounts were deleted.
He was also listed by the USC Annenberg Norman Lear center as a community storyteller in a panel discussion on Obamacare. “These stories include a young woman named Wynne Lee, a student at Diamond Bar High School, who is experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts after being bullied repeatedly at school; Lee eventually found help and support through the mental health services offered by the Asia Pacific Family Center,” says Wynne Lee.
3. None of them have a criminal history, but Eriz has had traffic violations before
Orange County’s online court records show no criminal records for Lee or Eriz.
Eriz has some traffic violations listed in the system, including not having insurance, driving without permission in the HOC lane, and not having a driver’s license.
“While these arrests will not alleviate the pain of the loss of a mother, my hope is that the Leos family will get some relief and make sure the CHP will work with the Orange County District Attorney to bring justice for Aiden,” the CHP Commissioner said. Amanda Ray said in a statement.
4. Eriz Works as a Car Mechanic
According to the prison records Heavy obtained, they list Eriz as a car mechanic. Redlands Daily Facts says they both work in Highland in San Bernardino County.
Eriz called himself “Auto body technician…welder/factory 💪🏼 jdm car enthusiast 🔰 Stay True to the Goal” on Instagram. He says he’s a “body shop worker” on Facebook, Krispy Kreme, and a Chevrolet dealership that works for a pizza company, goes to Trinity High, and is from Weaverville, California.
Heavy contacted her California employer, Eriz, who is listed on her Instagram page. The manager said he had not worked for the company since the beginning of the year and left for a better opportunity. He said that Eriz doesn’t seem like the type to do anything like the reported crime, and that company officials are planning to reach out to Aiden’s family for support.
Lee is listed as unemployed in the records, according to online prison registry records. An old LinkedIn page in Lee’s name says that someone by that name once worked at a waffle and chicken restaurant in Costa Mesa.
Both are held at the Orange County Jail on $1 million bail. Online records show that Lee had long ties to California, had an extended family in the area, and a former LinkedIn site named after a time attending a California university.
